DIY Wood-Burning Camping Stoves

The thing I like about wood stoves in general is that fuel for them can generally be found wherever you happen to be in a couple of minutes. (Although it certainly helps to have a bit of flammable liquid on hand to get the flame going.) Here’s a little compilation of links for building your own.
- Here is the Mother Earth News’ version of the classic wood-burning hobo stove: “Make it and Take it Hobo Stove“
- Further evolving, we come to Ray Garlington’s ‘inverted downdraft gasifier‘ design.
- This is a design from Mark Jurey: The “Penny Wood Backpacking Stove” which is based on Garlington’s design above. The penny wood is a great little stove I’ve made and tested myself.
If you can’t get enough of DIY camping stoves, a great resource is compiled here: http://zenstoves.net/Links.htm
